The University Council on Learning Assessment developed a learning assessment model/cycle for Johns Hopkins University programs. The model includes four steps:
Clearly define program learning goals; post goals on department and program websites.
Link program learning goals to courses, embedded assessment activities, and external program reviews.
Measure student progress against stated learning goals:
Direct assessment of student learning from coursework, portfolios, capstone projects, licensure exams, etc.
Indirect assessment of student learning from student surveys, focus groups, exit surveys, etc.
Develop a plan for continuous improvement in each academic program to systematically.
