Supplemental Application Materials for the VTSI PhD Program

In addition to submitting their PhD program application, VTSI applicants need to submit responses to the following 4 questions. The JHU PhD program portal directs applicants to where and how to submit their responses to these supplemental questions. Responses to these questions can be prepared in advance and copied into the application portal. (Please note the maximum word limit listed for each question).

  1. Please share the reason for your interest in becoming a VTSI Scholar and what you would like to be doing in 15 years. (maximum 500 words)    
  1. VTSI Scholars are expected to excel in STEM research, assume future leadership in STEM careers, serve as role models for future STEM researchers, and advance the STEM enterprise for the benefit of our society – across its many dimensions. How will this award enhance your ability to realize these goals? (maximum 500 words)   
  1. Briefly describe a situation in which you had to engage with those whose perspectives or experiences differ from your own; include lessons learned and how you think this will affect your future career in STEM. (maximum 250 words)    
  1. Please feel free to share any additional aspects of your personal, academic, or professional journeys you would like that may have influenced your career path and aspirations for a future STEM career. (maximum 250 words)
