Cynthia Minkovitz

Cynthia Minkovitz assumed the role of Vice Provost of Faculty Development in July 2025. In this position, Dr. Minkovitz supports the professional growth and advancement of faculty and enhances the faculty experience across career stages. Her portfolio includes advancing faculty development and pathway initiatives, improving faculty data and metrics, and providing dual career support. She oversees signature programs such as the Leadership, Advancement and Development (LAD) Academy and the Academy, which provides a platform for retired faculty to continue their research, writing and other academic pursuits. In partnership with Executive Vice Provost Lainie Rutkow, she convenes and supports the vice deans for faculty across the academic divisions.

Dr. Minkovitz joined the Bloomberg School of Public Health faculty in 1996 after completing a fellowship in general pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. She has served as the William H. Gates, Sr. Professor and Chair of the Department of Population, Family and Reproductive Health since 2017 and holds a joint appointment in Pediatrics. As chair, Minkovitz has prioritized faculty recruitment, mentorship, and professional development, advancing interdisciplinary collaboration and cultivating an academic culture that supports innovation and long-term institutional vitality. Her service has extended beyond the Bloomberg School to universitywide efforts, including serving on the University Pandemic Academic Advisory Committee, an academic leadership group that transitioned into the Johns Hopkins University Council after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Minkovitz is a recognized expert in enhancing systems of care and the quality of preventive services for children and families. She co-leads the Resource and Coordinating Center for ENRICH, a clinical trial to test the effectiveness of strategies in home visiting to promote cardiovascular health for mothers and their young children. Dr. Minkovitz also directs the Johns Hopkins Center of Excellence in Maternal and Child Health and is a founding member of the Home Visiting Applied Research Collaborative, a research and development platform to broaden and strengthen home visiting’s reach and effectiveness. She has served in advisory roles for multiple state and national initiatives focused on preventive service delivery and systems coordination. She earned an MD and MPP from Harvard University before completing pediatric residency at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Minkovitz received the Academic Pediatric Association Research Award and institutional awards for teaching and mentoring and is an elected member of the Society for Pediatric Research and the American Pediatric Society.
