Shanon joined Johns Hopkins University on July 1, 2020 as the Vice Provost for Institutional Equity. She is responsible for overseeing the university’s affirmative action and equal opportunity compliance efforts, investigating discrimination and harassment complaints and providing a central resource for individuals with disabilities. Prior to joining Johns Hopkins University, Shanon held leadership roles at Rush University System for Health in Chicago since 2013. While at Rush, Shanon proposed and developed their Office of Institutional Equity (OIE) while serving as the Director, Employee and Labor Relations. She was then named as the inaugural Vice President for the newly created OIE; she was also the Title IX coordinator and equal opportunity officer, responsible for resolving complaints of harassment, discrimination and sexual misconduct, as well as ensuring equity in the accommodations and disciplinary processes and setting the employee and labor relations strategy for the organization.
Prior to her work at Rush, Shanon held leadership roles at DePaul University and at University of Chicago Medical Center. Shanon is licensed as an attorney and she previously practiced employment and higher education law at a Chicago law firm.
Shanon holds a Bachelor’s degree from DePaul University, a Juris Doctorate from Howard University School of Law and a Master of Law – Health Law (LLM) from DePaul University College of Law.
