Policy History

During Fall, 2016, a 16-member Open Access Committee composed of faculty and librarians, discussed the need for an open access policy at Johns Hopkins. In December, the committee approved the Johns Hopkins Open Access Policy. In Spring, 2017 the policy was approved by the President and the Strategic Planning Group. The policy will require JHU faculty to make a version of their peer-reviewed scholarly journal articles freely available, if they are the sole or corresponding author. This will identify JHU as an institution dedicated to open and transparent scholarship that is readily available to scholars, policy makers, and interested laypeople across the globe.

The JHU Libraries created and maintain an open source Public Access Submission System (PASS) that allows faculty to deposit their documents for compliance. The Libraries also maintain the institutional repository, JScholarship, where faculty can deposit their files.

Please contact your Librarian or Informationist or the Scholarly Communications email with questions.
