As the landscape of career opportunities for those trained in academia continues to evolve, Johns Hopkins continues to create strategies for professional development and life design to meet the unique needs of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. The University requires every PhD program to have a policy in place whereby PhD students and their advisors discuss, at least annually, (a) the student’s academic progress, future requirements, and next steps; (b) the student’s professional development goals and any next steps; (c) how the advisor can be helpful regarding each. The Office of the Provost works in collaboration with each of the divisions throughout the University to create a culture where all Johns Hopkins graduate students and postdoctoral fellows can pursue their academic and professional goals.
