Professional Development

The Doctoral Life Design Studio (DLDS) at Johns Hopkins University is the central professional development hub for postdoctoral fellows, empowering individuals to thrive in fulfilling and impactful careers by fostering an inclusive community, providing innovative resources, and offering tailored guidance to connect them with diverse opportunities. The DLDS is part of the Integrative Learning and Life Design division within the Office of the Provost at Johns Hopkins.

The DLDS supports the professional development of approximately 1500 postdocs university-wide and covers a broad range of competencies essential for career success, such as career exploration, scientific and professional communication, intercultural awareness, experiential learning, and job market readiness for academic and non-academic positions. It also facilitates networking opportunities between postdocs, alumni, and employers.

Additionally, postdocs can attend open office hours and receive individualized support from a DLDS career educator. Appointments can be booked through Handshake.

Andrea Pereyra, M.D, Ph.D., is the inaugural Assistant Director of Postdoctoral Life Design at Johns Hopkins. She leads the design and delivery of courses, workshops, programs, and resources that help postdoctoral fellows explore career options and pursue their chosen paths; supports discipline-specific and cross-cutting research skill development; and builds partnerships across campuses.

Visit the DLDS website to access professional development and career resources. Check the Postdoctoral Life Design tile for dedicated resources and access the K Award repository under our Grant Writing section.
